Introduction

If you run any type of forum centered around software development, your users probably often need some place to be able to post their code for other members to review.

IPS partially accommodates for this need by providing its own "Code Box" that is built into the editor. However, this feature has some limitations and caveats when compared to using a traditional pastebin. For example;

• While the editors Code Box is fine for short snippets of code, it can end up taking up an excessive amount of space when pasting larger snippets or entire files into threads, which eats up a lot of space that could otherwise be used for actual relevant discussion on the code in question.
• The editors Code Box supports only 7 different languages, while Pastebin supports syntax highlighting for up to 240 different languages.
• The Code Box offers no real control over how the code is formatted or displayed, while Pastebin provides you with several options for controlling these aspects. In future versions, you will also be able to implement fully customizable themes and color schemes for syntax highlighting.
• Pastebin can automatically generate links to programming language documentation when applying syntax highlighting to your code.

Having a dedicated Pastebin allows you to keep your topics free of clutter, allowing more room for actual discussion. It provides you and your members with access to hundreds of languages, and is great for posting snippets of code that need to be linked outside of your forum (to chat rooms, for example).
